India imported a total of 23.59 million tonnes of coal in March 2024, rising 8.83% year on year and 10.26% month on month, according to data released by Iman resources.
In the month, non-coking coal imports in the country increased 4.94% YoY and 13.86% MoM to 15.12 million tonnes, while coking coal intakes reached 4.65 million tonnes, up 19.29 % YoY and 0.04% MoM.
India imported 1.73 million tonnes of PCI coal during the same month, increasing 14.67% YoY and 12.62% MoM. Anthracite imports climbed up 41.28% YoY yet declined 23.9% MoM to 166,000 tonnes.
In March, Indonesia was the largest non-coking coal supplier to India with shipment at 10.33 million tonnes, rising 16.03% YoY and 15.63% MoM. Non-coking coal intakes from South Africa came in at 2.21 million tonnes, down 7.14% YoY and 19.31% MoM, data showed.
The country imported 2.65 million tonnes of coking coal from Australia over the month, up 11.82% YoY yet down 2.13% MoM; inflows from the U.S. were 733,000 tonnes, rising 36.15% YoY but falling 17.13% MoM.
